Artificial Intelligence Blog

Recently in computer science class we have been studying the world of artificial intelligence. I personally find it very interesting that we as
humans will eventually be replaced as the smartest beings in the world by our own creation. Sure at this point in time, we are not yet at the point of having
robots smart enough to pass as human but that is not too far away. As the movie “Bicentennial Man” explicates, robots might soon evolve far beyond expected.

In the movie, Andrew would have no chance at passing the Turing Test prior to falling off the window. At this point the robot is not really intelligent like
humans. A few examples of how the movie portrays this in the movie is when Andrew and his master are arguing in the basement about how to say Good Night.
The film obviously feels that Andrew is like any other robot of his kind. He was manufactured to his programming. I agree with the movie. I think that at
this point in the film Andrew would not be able to pass the Turing Test because he does not have AI because he is like any other robot of his kind. He was
manufactured to serve. I believe this because of the way he acted at the dinner table. He was able to understand the literal meaning of the words being spoke
to him by his master, but he did not understand the meaning between the lines.

A robot does have AI should be considered human if and only if he can die. The difference would between being classified as a real human and not an appliance
would be that the robot would have fit into society perfectly, it should not stand out in any extraordinary way. The movie deals with this exact situation
when Andrew presents his case in the world court. The movie’s opinion about this is that Andrew could not be human because he was immortal. My opinion is
that robots should be considered alive if they have AI, have good morals and intentions, and not have any serious mechanical problems frequently. I
believe that because if something is alive, then that means it has feelings and nobody should feel like the outcast or weirdo without necessity.

Humans should not be allowed to own a robot such as Andrew; they should be free to make their own choices. The movie portrayed this question very explicitly.
The movie believed that Andrew should be free, so Andrew set himself free and went to live in his own house that he built on the beach. My opinion is simple
and to the point. If something is genuinely intelligent enough to have feelings and feel oppressed when denied its freedom, it is called slavery. In the land
of the free, we all deserve to be free to live our lives. I have read and studied the horrors of slavery and feel that history should not repeat itself
with this kind of inhumane activities.

If a robot and a human really love each other and are able to produce real human babies, then they should be allowed to marry. The movie shows this
situation when Andrew and Porche try to get married officially. The film thinks that as long as a robot is a robot, it cannot wed a human being. My opinion is
that love concurs all and nothing can hold back its passion. I believe this because I am a sucker for Romeo and Juliet themed stories.

Artificial Intelligence should have the same rights as humans if and only if they can blend into society inconspicuously. The movie demonstrates this when
Andrew goes in front of the world court the first and second time in order to be accepted as a human and gain full human rights. The film’s opinion is
pro-robot rights. I say that if robots are good-moraled enough to live peacefully and nicely between humans and other intelligent robots they should
live as humans. If they are to behave in opposition of the law they should be punished as the law would punish a human. I say this because I have grown up
with the phrase, “My house, My rules.” So if robots want to be considered human: “Our species, Our Laws.”

Artificial Intelligence can either be an incredibly putrid, gruesome, and horrid thing in the future or the best thing since fire. The movie portrays
this question all throughout the second half of the movie. In the film’s opinion AI, or Andrew, is the best thing that could have happened to human
kind. With his help, new artificial human organs were invented that helped humans live forever! My opinion is that there is no need for AI. Technology is
already where it should be. Any more reliance on robots and other technologies would just help to make us lazier and decrease our human ambitions to succeed.
AI, if achieved, would be the worst thing to happen to us. If they do not take us over they will surely plague us with lazy attitudes towards life, and leave
us with little desires to achieve anything.
